Trauma flashbacks are common symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder. Acting or feeling as if the traumatic event were recurring (includes a sense of reliving the experience, illusions, hallucinations, and dissociative flashback episodes, including those that occur upon awakening or when intoxicated). Note: in children, trauma-specific reenactment may occur. These flashbacks can be frightening and confusing. They can be triggered by situations, places, events, or people that are associated with the actual traumatic event. When an individual experiences flashbacks it can also result in a panic attack or feeling "frozen" in place.
